Engineering Sustainable Water Solutions for Australia’s Energy Future
The Santos 300 Dams Initiative is a comprehensive water infrastructure program designed to support coal seam gas (CSG) operations across Queensland’s Surat and Bowen Basins. The project encompasses the construction and management of approximately 300 dams, including brine ponds, associated water storage facilities, and evaporation ponds. These structures are critical for the storage and treatment of produced water, a byproduct of CSG extraction processes.

Client: Santos Limited
Location: Central and Southern Queensland, Australia
Project Type: Water Storage and Management Infrastructure
Project Scale: Over 300 Dams and Associated Facilities
Timeline: 2010–13
The initiative emphasizes environmental stewardship through the implementation of best practices in dam design, construction, and monitoring. All facilities are constructed with robust lining systems and are subject to rigorous environmental protection orders (EPOs) to ensure the integrity of surrounding ecosystems.
